About Us

Welcome to E Mālama I Ko Mākou Hale, where we are dedicated to educating Hawaii's community about the unique and precious plant life that call our islands home. Our mission is to spread awareness, foster appreciation, and encourage conservation of Hawaii's endangered plants.
E Mālama I Ko Mākou Hale was created as a Girl Scout Gold Award by Pearl City High School Class of '24 graduate and 12 year girl scout, Aryanna Runyan. Native Hawaiian plants are threatened with extinction over twice as much as the global endangered rate. Madagascar is currently the country with the highest endangered plant rate at 79%, Hawai'i currently beats that by 8% with a rate of 87%. Ms. Runyan aims to change that over the next decade.
We offer a Virtual Plant Garden that includes conservation status and habitats, as well as information on how to care for plant species found in Hawaii. Our goal is to inspire community participation in our programs and outreach efforts to protect and preserve these plants for future generations.
